Why are these chemicals used in conventional mattresses if they are not healthy?
Economics!!! Petrochemicals are used in the construction of conventional inner spring mattress since it is relatively inexpensive to mass-produce. Mattresses using selected natural and organic fabrics are 10 times more expensive and have to be assembled by hand.
Also, chemicals are used to meet federal flammability standards whereby a natural fiber such as wool is fire retardant.
